Addiction treatment Brisbane

Addiction treatment services in Brisbane

From working with many individuals who have been or will be incarcerated we know there is a lack of effective addiction related assessment and support programs for them. As a result, these individuals don’t have access to the type of support that can lead them to create a more functional life for themselves and those around them.

Our approach has been developed for those who have pending, ongoing or finalised criminal matters and is based on sound research that addresses the contributing factors of addiction, working with people from a humanist perspective.

how does C2C approach addiction treatment?

Addiction must be treated like other chronic medical conditions. Individuals require long-term management that includes medical and psychosocial support (Goodwin and Sias 2014).

It's not about what substance you use or the amount. What matters is the negative and personal impact that addiction is having on an individual's life.

A diagnostics tool for mental health conditions (DSM-5) describes “Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders” as a chronic, relapsing disorder characterised by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences.

Incarcerated individuals with substance-use issues also have a greater likelihood of comorbidities, such as anxiety and depression, increasing their level of vulnerability, and risk of relapse.

REDUCING RECIDIVISM INVOLVES THE PROMOTION OF POSITIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENCOURAGE MEANINGFUL, LASTING, CHANGE.

what you do does not define who you are. c2c addresses contributing factors of addiction

Therapy involves exploring the individual’s root cause of their destructive behaviour; in particular, we focus on attachment trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

These experiences substantially increase one’s vulnerability to addiction.

WE HELP BUILD SELF-WORTH AND SELF-ESTEEM TO HELP OUR CLIENTS MAKE POSITIVE PATHWAY CHOICES.

we help improve post-release care

A significant amount of AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) literature highlights the importance of supportive services post-release to improve individual’s health and well-being needs, substantially reducing the chances of re-offending (Winter et al., 2016).

Individuals who have spent significant time within the criminal justice and correctional systems have more challenges adapting to prosocial living upon their release in the community.

In addition to offering case-management support, C2C connects individuals with complementary supportive services in the community to assist in the recreation of their identity.

Behavioural change is a process and relapse is normal. For C2C clients, the implications of a relapse often means a return to prison.
